About the Pelog scale

Pelog is a tuning system of Indonesian gamelan, and its intervals don't match Western tuning. The five-note version here is a common Western approximation.

What makes it sound the way it does

It has two half steps, from the root to the ♭2 and from the 5th to the ♭6, with a wide gap between the ♭3 and the 5th.
