About the Hungarian Minor scale

Also called double harmonic minor. The name comes from its association with 19th-century Hungarian-style music.

What makes it sound the way it does

It's harmonic minor with a raised 4th, giving two gaps of three half steps: from the ♭3 to the ♯4 and from the ♭6 to the 7th.
