Mixolydian with an added major 7th as a passing note. Jazz educator David Baker named and taught the bebop scales, after the players who used these lines.
What makes it sound the way it does
The extra note makes eight notes per octave. In a stepwise eighth-note run that starts on a chord tone on the beat, the 1, 3, 5 and ♭7 fall on the beats.
