About the Major Pentatonic scale

Five notes: the major scale without its 4th and 7th. Pentatonic scales grew up independently in music all over the world, from East Asia to West Africa to Scotland.

What makes it sound the way it does

Dropping the 4th and 7th removes every half step, giving the scale an open sound with very little tension between its notes.
